End of Year Checklist: Confirm or Update Address with Licensing

As the year comes to a close, here is a helpful reminder for you as a professional or business owner.

Confirm or Update Your Address with Licensing

Each and every licensing department, board, bureau, commission, or otherwise agency, in the state of California, has a requirement that you maintain current contact information with it regarding your active license. Most require an update immediately or no later than thirty (30) days after the change. And most permit you to make the change directly online.

Furthermore, the failure to maintain current and correct contact information can be independent grounds for discipline.

Moreover, many of the licensing agencies require you to identify where you actually render your licensed services. So, providing a P.O. Box or UPS Store or other mail center is not sufficient. Rather, you need to actually identify where you practice operates.

How to Check? Its a breEZe

Many of the licensing agencies are found with the Department of Consumer Affairs. And they have a centralized online program for checking and updating your license status. It is called breEZe and is accessible here:

If you have not done so, you may need to register to access your account. Or, you can just look yourself up using the same tools as consumers or members of the public use.

By checking your address through this means, you also can check your license status. Sometimes, you may be surprised to learn that it is delinquent on renewal. Or that a disciplinary action has been filed. This will then let you start the process for addressing those items before it is too late. And feel free to contact our office in the event you were to make such a discovery.
